  • November 2002 – Risk Management in Today’s Insurance Marketplace, Virginia Chapter of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Williamsburg, VA. Presentation to a large number of risk managers on the implications of the hard insurance market and ways to combat rapidly escalating costs.
  • December 2001 – Computer Training on Model Vehicle Safety Program for Small Urban and Rural Transportation Systems, Virginia Department of Transportation, Richmond, VA. Full day seminar on how to customize the “Model” to each individual system.  Participants worked in a computer lab environment to develop their own safety program.

  • July, 1999 – Accident Investigation and Cost Effective Insurance Purchasing, Community Transportation Association of Virginia Annual Conference, Blacksburg, VA. 2 hour blocks of instructions on proper vehicle accident investigation procedures and how to cost effectively purchase insurance.
  • May, 1999 – Risk Management for Public Transit Managers, Mass Transportation Administration, Maryland Department of Transportation, Ellicott City, MD. 8 hour block of instruction on a proper risk management techniques for public transportation managers.
  • December, 1998 – The Great Lynchburg Train Crash, Virginia Public Risk and Insurance Management Association (PRIMA), Richmond, VA – Organized and orchestrated a 2.5 hour presentation demonstrating the impact on the City of Lynchburg, VA of a major train derailment in March, 1998. This wreck resulted in the destruction of significant city property and disruption of city services.

  • February, 1994 – Reducing Your Risks, Transportation Association of South Carolina Annual Conference, Myrtle Beach, SC. Presented two 90 minute workshops on risk management for the rural and urban transportation provider.
  • September, 1993 – Insurance Purchasing, An Integral Part of Quality Risk Management, 11th National Conference On Rural Public and Intercity Bus Transportation, Park City, Utah. Conducted a 90 minute presentation on the proper way to conduct a request for proposal process for insurance. Emphasis was on cost effectiveness and proper protection for the purchaser.
  • June, 1993 – Introduction to Computerized Insurance Specifications Preparation, Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, Richmond, VA. Conducted a one day training program for a number of rural transit operators on the use of a newly developed computer template to develop insurance specifications documents.
  • October, 1992 – Risk Management and Insurance Issues of Vanpools, Association For Commuter Transportation (ACT) Annual Conference, Vista Hotel, New York, NY. Participated in a panel discussion about the liabilities of vanpools especially as they relate to employer sponsored ride sharing programs. My position was that, if properly managed, they do not pose undue risk to a sponsoring organization.
  • June, 1989 – What is Risk Management, Virginia Department of Transportation, One day program was aimed at urban and rural transportation providers. A 15 minute video was developed for use in the classes. Given at 3 separate locations in Virginia.
