The Risk Management Center

The Risk Management Center, Inc., a general corporation chartered in Virginia, was established in March, 1993 as an independent risk management, employee benefits and insurance consulting firm. The president of the firm is Richard F. O’Hare, CPCU, CSP, ARM, AMIM. The staff is licensed by the Bureau of Insurance, Virginia State Corporation Commission, as insurance consultants only. Consulting licenses are held in Virginia as well as in several other states. Neither the firm nor its staff sells or places insurance, accepts commissions or acts as brokers for any insurance company, agency, brokerage firm or third party administrator. The only source of income is the fees paid by clients. Costs are quoted on a retainer, hourly or project basis plus expenses. The firm does not accept commissions from insurance agencies or companies. The primary goal of the firm is to provide unbiased technical assistance, research and support to organizations in all sectors.

Services offered are centered in two areas. The first area of expertise deals with property and casualty insurance and risk management related matters. This includes aid in loss reduction, identification of risks, review of safety programs, claim resolution, and as well as establishing a cost effective insurance program. The second area of services offered is in employee benefits, other than qualified and non-qualified compensation plans. Guidance is rendered concerning the structure of medical, dental, disability, and life programs. Special studies on cost containment options are also performed.

Typical clients have risk and insurance budgets of between $300,000 to $10,000,000 per year or are in industries that have unique or difficult risk exposures. These clients may or may not have a professional risk manager on staff. They do realize, however, that it is in the organization’s best interest to have a risk management professional in the field, monitor and supplement their existing programs.
